The call for climate responsibility has become louder than ever. Businesses are no longer just encouraged to act – they’re expected to. It is therefore heartening to see a growing number of corporations pledging to achieve net-zero emissions.
Trigent Software has also joined the league of tech leaders across the world taking meaningful climate action.
Our net-zero targets have been officially approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), marking a major milestone in our sustainability journey.
Embracing a Meaningful, Credible Decarbonization Program
While there are several global decarbonization programs such as the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), RE100 for renewable energy adoption, and the UN’s Race to Zero initiative, we have chosen to align with the SBTi. By adopting SBTi targets, we reaffirm our dedication to bold climate action that drives real impact.
- SBTi provides a rigorous, science-backed framework that ensures our net-zero commitments are measurable, transparent, and aligned with the most ambitious climate goals.
- SBTi provides a globally recognized framework for setting emissions reduction targets in line with climate science and the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
This approval affirms that our targets are not just aspirational statements but tangible, science-backed commitments to a more sustainable future.
A crucial step in this journey is establishing a carbon baseline—the total greenhouse gas emissions our company produced in a specific reference year. This benchmark serves as a foundation for measuring progress, ensuring our reduction efforts are both trackable and effective. By setting a clear baseline, we can accurately assess our impact and refine our sustainability strategies over time.
At Trigent, we have set FY2023 as the baseline. And secondly, we have phased our commitment to decarbonize.
- Trigent is committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions (direct emissions from owned sources and indirect emissions from purchased energy) by 42% by FY2030, based on the FY2023 baseline.
- Additionally, we aim to cut Scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions from our value chain) by 51.6% per full-time employee (FTE) within the same timeframe.
These reductions will contribute significantly to the global movement toward decarbonization.
Addressing all three scopes is critical because:
- Scope 1 and 2 reductions help directly lower our operational carbon footprint
- While Scope 3, often the largest category, extends our impact across suppliers, partners, and customers. For instance, Samsung has identified that 61% of its total carbon dioxide emissions come from Scope 3 sources, while Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) reports an even higher figure at 93%. These numbers highlight a significant opportunity for businesses to drive broader sustainability efforts that shrink their carbon footprint and enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Therefore, by taking a comprehensive approach, we are not only cutting emissions within our control but also driving systemic change throughout the industry.
Why Corporate Climate Responsibility Matters
The business landscape is evolving rapidly, and companies that fail to address sustainability will find themselves left behind. Customers, investors, and employees are increasingly holding organizations accountable for their environmental impact.
From being just a corporate social responsibility initiative, sustainability has evolved to become a business imperative. Companies that integrate sustainable practices into their operations gain a competitive edge, driving long-term profitability while reducing ecological harm.
By achieving SBTi approval, Trigent is not just meeting regulatory expectations; we are leading by example in the technology sector.
Our Collaborative Approach to Sustainability
Achieving net-zero emissions requires more than just setting ambitious targets: it demands action, innovation, and systemic change.
We will implement consistent tracking mechanisms to measure, monitor, and reduce our emissions more effectively. We aim to identify high-impact areas for emissions reduction and enhance sustainability across our operations.
We plan to enhance energy efficiency by implementing energy-saving measures across our facilities and optimizing resource utilization. We also actively promote a hybrid work culture to reduce commuting-related emissions. Our focus will also be on engaging with suppliers and partners to encourage greener practices throughout our value chain.
These efforts will ensure that every step we take towards net-zero is transparent, accountable, and aligned with global sustainability goals.
Beyond Compliance: A Culture of Innovation
At Trigent, sustainability is woven into our culture. As part of our net-zero program, we plan to make decarbonization a shared responsibility across the organization. We will actively engage employees at all levels from leadership to frontline teams, ensuring they understand the importance of carbon accounting and how their contributions can drive meaningful change.
Transparent communication will be key, helping everyone stay informed about our sustainability initiatives and the role they play in achieving our goals.
We believe that real change happens when companies collaborate across the value chain. We engage with industry peers, policymakers, and environmental organizations to share best practices and collectively work towards a sustainable future.
The Road Ahead
Achieving net-zero emissions is not a destination but a journey. The next few years will be critical in implementing the strategies necessary to meet our 2030 targets. By staying accountable, measuring progress, and continuously innovating, we aim to make a lasting impact on our industry and the planet.
As global sustainability standards evolve and stakeholder expectations grow, we recognize that responsible carbon reduction is not just an obligation but an opportunity to lead by example. Our efforts go beyond compliance and reflect our dedication to building a more resilient, future-ready organization.
Trigent as a collective team, is geared to meet our environmental goals with steadfast commitment, innovation, and a proactive approach to transformation.
Tackling climate change requires collective action, and we are proud to do our part!
